Overview


This course will help you learn about the justice system and criminology, human psychology and sociology, and other important topics so that you can work in the Public Services sector, such as the Police Service, Criminal Intelligence, Major Crime Investigation, Crime Analytics, Justice Services such as Probation / Youth Justice, Security Services Personnel, and other Criminal Justice support agencies.


The Pearson BTEC Level 4 & 5 HNC/D in Public Services provides students with a specialist program of study that will help students learn about the key concepts and skills necessary for working in the Public Services sector.


If you complete the HND, you have the option to either complete a third-year top-up course in criminology and criminal justice.

Structure and content


If you complete the HND, you can choose to continue your studies by doing a third-year top-up course in criminology and criminal justice. This will give you a level 6 BSc (Hons) degree.

Entry requirement

The standard offer is 80 UCAS tariff points from three A Levels, such as BCC.


Level 2 and Level 3 qualifications are accepted and will be reviewed upon individual basis


As an alternative, we requests:


  • Irish Certificate of Exit: BBCCC.
  • Scots who are higher: BBCCC.
  • Extended BTEC Level 3 Diploma: DMM in a subject related to business.
  • Diploma from the International Baccalaureate 24 points.


Candidates require to have at least 3 GCSEs, including English and math, with a grade of C or higher. 


If English is not your first language, you will require you to demonstrate a certificate of proficiency of at least IELTS 6.0 (Academic level) or an equivalent English Language qualification.
